Property Description

The American Farmhouse style of this historic home glows with the nostalgic appeal of a simpler, land-connected lifestyle of days gone by. Five generations of the same family have occupied this sturdy and well-crafted home since it was built in 1909; an era when homes were built to last as well as provide comfort to the family. The core farmhouse architecture elements of a covered porch, dormer windows and white paint are present and the interior still has most of the original features intact with some modifications, i.e. space converted to accommodate 3 bathrooms. Polished wood floors below 14 ceilings; beautiful wood molding around doors, tall windows and walls; transom windows some with leaded glass- that allowed constant airflow in the days before air conditioning; bead board walls; antique hardware; built-in shelving, glass fronted cabinets and wardrobes are just some of the vintage treasures that catch the eye. The wide front entrance hall gives access to bedrooms on both sides and double divided glass doors open into the sitting room. All three rooms boast fireplaces with beautifully crafted mantles, 2 have been fitted with gas heater inserts. Part of the porch that originally wrapped around the house has been enclosed to make a childrens playroom (could be used as another bedroom), laundry room, and sunroom. The kitchen has been modified to include some modern conveniences but the natural wood floors, bead board walls, cabinets and Chambers brand porcelain gas range maintain the vintage flavor. From a rear hall, a series of steps and landings ascend to a large open room on the second floor that was previously used by one generation of the family as a master bedroom suite. Dormer windows on three walls allow plenty of natural light to flood the room. An adjoining bathroom was installed but has not been used in many years. Currently, the house is heated with space heaters and window a/c units (included).
A wooden deck extends from the glass doors of the sun porch into the tree shaded backyard. Last years drought claimed some of the trees and much of the decorative shrubs but several still remain. An in-ground swimming pool occupies a side yard enclosed by a fence. Because of potential danger to the small children in the family, the owners have not used or filled it in several years so the condition of the pool and equipment is unknown. The house and lawn occupies over half a city block allowing plenty of room for children, pets, gardens and privacy. The home is located in a beautiful neighborhood populated by other well-maintained homes from the same era. Time has spared very few of these lovely old homes that serve as icons connecting us to a rich part of Texas history and this one should be given serious attention by anyone wanting to own a part of that history. This home could be the perfect way to showcase your antiques, make a quaint tea house or an attractive bed and breakfast.
